EDIKAN'S VIEW

Name: Udoma, Edikan Victoria.

Profession: I am an entrepreneur in the fragrance industry. Educationist on the management of personal hygiene.

Summer Graze Role(s): Herd coordinator and the coordinator of Temple Care class.

Herd: Deborah

Favourite part of your day: Well, it’s really hard for me to pick a favourite day because each day kept getting better and better and honestly, there was something peculiar to learn about each day.

What will you never forget about Summer Graze: What I’ll never forget about the Summer Graze is the fact that aside from my own herd, I was really welcomed into other herds. I loved that some of the girls could talk to me in confidence about their personal ongoing issues and they were able to trust me…. This blew my mind and I felt really loved.🥰

Why did you apply to work at Summer Graze: I applied to work at the Summer Graze because I am very passionate about the hygiene of young teenagers since this helps to boost their self-confidence and self-esteem. Letting them know that they are the brand before their brand itself, so, it is important to keep your personal hygiene game up. Hence, the reason why I applied to take them on the Temple Care class which is all about their personal and environmental hygiene.

Favourite class/activity apart from yours: My favourite classes were the Red Cross, Mindset and Etiquette classes. Also, the excursion day was an excellent one.👍🏾

Summary of your experience: It was really an amazing moment with the girls and my colleagues at the Summer Graze. The Summer Graze brought out some hidden qualities I never thought I had – especially when I had to act as a mediator. I encourage teamwork amongst the girls in my herd (Deborah) and I also began to see some motherly qualities I was exhibiting, at that point, I was like, “It’s time to have my kids”😂😂🤭

EKANEM'S VIEW

Name: Ekanem Utibe Ekanem

Summer Graze Role(s): Herd Coordinator and Assistant Commandant for Games

Herd: Esther

Favorite part of your day: My favorite part of the day was when we had our herd meetings. In our meetings I get to talk to every student in my herd and find out what has been going on in the dormitory and everybody just gets the opportunity to express themselves, talk about how they feel about the classes and the camp activities so far.

What you’ll never forget about Summer Graze: The growth among the students within a short period of time is so remarkable. And seeing each of them open themselves to a new environment and care for each other is priceless.

Why did you apply to work at the Summer Graze: I fell in love with the goals and aims of She Is Sheep Association, and I did not hesitate to apply when I saw they had planned a summer camp for the girls. Personally, I have always loved to make positive impacts in the life of young students, and the camp provides a beautiful environment to do that.

Favorite class/activity apart from yours: My favorite classes were the Financesheep and Temple Care classes. Mainly because I saw how excited and involved the girls were during the classes.

Summary of your experience: I guess I would say it was a privilege and a blessing to be part of the team for Summer Graze 2023, meeting incredible students, and seeing them face challenges head-on, has been a major inspiration to me. And having the opportunity to make a positive impact and meet outstanding individuals was such a stunning experience.

HADASSAH' S VIEW

As I reflect on my journey, I am reminded of the countless videos I watched of NGOs making a profound impact in African countries. Their selfless acts of providing for children’s needs and clothing them sparked a desire within me to be part of something meaningful. Little did I know, my dream would soon become a reality.

Fast forward to 2024, when I stumbled upon She Is Sheep Association (SISA), a renowned NGO dedicated to education and child welfare. Their mission resonated deeply with me, and I knew I had to be part of this incredible organization.

During my first meeting and training in preparation for the camp, I was given lots of printed guides, when I mean lots, I mean lots to go through and note key points because it would help me understand what I needed to do in the camp and when I went through them, I realized that the thing missing from most NGO’s, I had found it, and this was DISCIPLINE. So, yes the thing that motivated and inspired me to accept such a tasking role was because I saw the spirit and act of discipline in such an organization and also because it has been a lifelong dream to work or volunteer for an NGO.

My experience as a volunteer at SISA’s SUMMER GRAZE CAMP 2.0 was nothing short of transformative. Themed GRATITUDE, the camp was a haven for secondary school girls to learn, grow, and thrive. As a Dormitory Mom, I had the privilege of mentoring and guiding these young minds, and in return, they taught me valuable lessons about resilience, empathy, and leadership.

Also, one major challenge I had was having to adjust my mindset that I will have to not just be jovial but also social, this was a huge step for me because I am a shameless introvert, one who happens to love her private space and is very mindful of her mental health. Getting to meet new faces, different personalities, and different mindsets was a big deal for me but I am glad I took the opportunity because if I hadn’t I would have missed out on a lot of transformative ideas, possible connections, and future celebrities.

The camp was a rollercoaster of emotions, challenges, and triumphs. From the exhausting yet exhilarating games to the heartwarming moments of connection, every experience was a testament to the power of community and compassion. As I look back, I am filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that I made a difference in the lives of these remarkable young girls.

My journey with SISA taught me invaluable lessons about discipline, patience, and the importance of living a life of gratitude. It showed me that even in the midst of chaos, there is always room for growth, learning, and love.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to harness your potential, make a difference, and experience a mindset shift, then SISA is the perfect destination for you. Join me on this incredible journey, and let’s change lives together
